Northern Enterprises Launches North-Link

May 4, 2007 - Northern Enterprises, Inc., a Vermont-based non-profit corporation, and Senator Patrick Leahy, announced the launch of North-Link, an open-access, fiber optic network today at the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in Saint Johnsbury.  The first link of this 400-mile Network, slated for the northern region of the Northeast Kingdom, was made possible with a $500,000 grant secured by Senator Leahy.  North-Link is designed as a backbone encompassing eight counties, three states and two countries covering Vermont's most rural regions.

Adesta, LLC was awarded the contract for engineering, design and construction management at the end of December 2005.  In April 2007, Clifford of Vermont was awarded both the fiber and materials contracts through a competitive bid process.

North-Link, Vermont's first open access Network will act as a catalyst by maximizing economic development opportunities.  This Project will enable Internet and wireless service providers to supply last mile services to Vermonters.
